Winds will stay strong for another day. They will be out of the south and reach 20 to 40 mph.
Gusts could get up to 60 mph to the west. This is why a High Wind Warning will be in effect today.
A High Wind Watch will be in effect today for Greeley and Wallace Counties until 7pm. Gusts will be just as strong in this portion of Western Kansas.
A Wind Advisory will be in effect in Central Kansas and Northern Oklahoma. This is where gusts will be as high as 50 to 55 mph.
Due to the wind, more warm temperatures, and dry conditions, Fire Weather Warnings will also be in effect today. Counties that are not included in the warning also need to be aware of conditions today and not burn anything.
Some record highs will be in jeopardy again as we warm into the 80s. Today’s record high in Wichita is 86 and we are expected to get close with a forecast high of 83.
Areas northwest will notice temperatures starting to change tonight. This is where it will be coldest in the 30s as winds start to switch out of the northwest. The rest of us will be mild in the 50s and 60s due to strong south winds.
After we make it through today’s high fire danger, we will need to watch out for storms once the next system moves in.
A chance for showers and storms returns to the northwest tonight ahead of a cold front.
Storm Tracker Radar will be active through the night. Areas between Western and Central Kansas will need to be monitored closely.
Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible. Damaging wind gusts and large hail are the main threats.
As storms track east they will stick around into Wednesday. A few showers will still be possible in Western Kansas.
The greatest risk for strong to severe storms will be between Central and Eastern Kansas. Please be weather aware through the day and have a plan. All forms of severe weather will be possible.
Storms will linger in the eastern third of the area through the evening. The overnight will be quieter as they get pushed east with the cold front.
Trick-or-treaters will be in the clear Thursday evening but it will be much cooler. Smaller ghouls and goblins will need an extra layer underneath their costumes to keep warm. More moisture moves in over the weekend with the heaviest rainfall expected between Central and Eastern Kansas.
