Sport: Arne Gunnes became Levanger’s big cup hero. He scored the winning goal after eight minutes of play.

The Trønders from the 1st division stayed away and surprisingly progressed at the expense of the cup champion from the 2021/22 season. The victory came at the same time as Trønder’s bastion Rosenborg lost 0-1 in Fredrikstad.

Brann was never able to put together a run that threatened Wednesday’s shellacking result.

Gjermund Åsen put the visitors in front early when a crosser went in via the post. A long-range shot from Håkon Evjen made it 1-1 before halftime. The ball snuck past an LSK player and changed direction.

Eight minutes later, Lillestrøm were back in the lead after a brilliant attack. Félix Vá made sure of that when he was played by a selfless Eric Kitolano. Earlier in the week, Vá was banned for three league matches for the red card he received against HamKam.

Glimt got 2-2 at the break thanks to Jens Petter Hauge, but the problems didn’t stop there. Four minutes into the second half, LSK captain Åsen struck again, and just over a quarter of an hour later, Ruben Gabrielsen made it 4-2 with a header.

Bodø/Glimt have been in two of the last three cup finals. Both were lost 0-1 to Molde.

Controlled further, HamKam went 3-1 away to Egersund, while Eidsvold Turn from level three knocked out Åsane from the 1st division with a 2-1 victory.

Lysekloster advanced after 2-1 over last year’s semi-final sensation Kjelsås.

Further north, another big favorite fell. Bodø/Glimt beat Lillestrøm 5-0 away in the Eliteserien recently, but at home at Aspmyra it was a 2-4 loss when the teams met for the play-off.

Fredrikstad beat RBK after an overtime goal by Oscar Aga. The match winner is at the club on loan from Rosenborg.
