BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 31 – An Indonesian man has been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine for possessing contraband cigarettes.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni ordered Mujiono, 49, to serve five months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
The customs prosecutor revealed in court that the defendant was found to be in possession of three cartons, 12 packs and 14 cigarettes of various brands.
The discovery was the result of an inspection carried out by customs officers at a worker’s residence in Kampung Kapok on October 29.
The court ordered the seized cigarettes to be handed over to the government for destruction.
