former presidential adviser Tshimanga detained after hearing

Published on :

The now ex-strategic adviser to President Félix Tshisekedi, Vidiye Tshimanga, spent his first night in detention on Wednesday September 21 after a long hearing on Tuesday at the public prosecutor’s office near the Kinshasa/Gombe Court of Appeal. This close associate of the president had been in the hot seat for almost a week after the broadcast of a compromising video where we see him offering access to the mines in exchange for a commission. The procedure accelerated after pressure from civil society, despite his resignation.

At 11:20 a.m. local time, at the Courthouse, Vidiye Tshimanga entered the prosecutor’s office. For this first meeting with the public prosecutor’s officer, former adviser to the president was assisted by lawyers from three different firms.

The session was very long. After seven hours of hearing, the activists of his political party and some of his relatives, who made the trip to the Palace of Justice, lost hope when the security system was reinforced before their eyes. The arrival of police vehicles created a small scramble.

Vidiye Tshimanga is placed under a provisional arrest warrant and is taken to prison.

On the other hand, his lawyers were delighted with the smooth progress of the investigation, yet they were careful not to reveal the content of the hearings at this stage.

In the meantime, a requisition has been issued by the public prosecutor’s office and sent to the notary of the one-stop shop for business creation. The prosecutor wants to know everything about mining investments by Vidiye Tshimanga.
