Sport: The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute, strangely. Christos Tzolis took a corner kick that hit the near post, bounced off the thigh of Bochum striker Philipp Hofmann and into the home team’s goal.

The own goal was the only score in the first half, thanks in large part to Fortuna’s solid defensive play.

In the 64th minute, Felix Klaus doubled the lead. The referee gave the advantage and opened up a quick Fortuna counterattack. Tzolis did the preparatory work with a raid and a perfect pass to the scorer.

Yannick Engelhardt made the evening perfect for the visitors when he made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute. Tzolis curled a free kick around the wall, and Bochum goalkeeper Andreas Luthe returned it straight. Engelhardt was quickly in front and put in the rebound.

Fortuna Düsseldorf finished third in the 2. Bundesliga behind St. Pauli and Hostein Kiel, but now looks set to follow them up to the elite.

Bochum dropped down to the qualification spot when Union Berlin decided their match in the last round of the series with a goal in the last minute, and the team must do really well in the return match in Düsseldorf on Monday if the team is to extend their stay in the 1. Bundesliga.
