Friday’s letters: U.S. getting the leader it deserves

Article content

I honestly thought for a moment that the citizens of our neighbour to the south would be smart enough to elect Kamala Harris as their next president. But sadly, I was wrong. Sadly, they did not remember the things that man has said about women, about Puerto Rico, about immigrants, about men that went to war to fight for freedom. Shame, shame on Americans.

I guess you got what you deserve. Sad day today in the U.S.A.

Weeping for the United States

I weep for the country of my birth. When Kamala Harris spoke, she did so with intelligence and conviction. When president-elect Donald Trump spoke, he used slander, lies and misogynistic rhetoric. He is still, until he pardons himself, a convicted felon. He is a proven adulterer. Why was he even allowed to run? How have we reduced ourselves to a society that does not know nor respect history?

A man who wants “generals like Hitler had” should not be allowed to lead the free world. A man who would like to see his female opponent in a rink with a great boxer is one who enjoys the vision of violence against a woman. A man who promises 20-per-cent tariffs is not an economic genius. He is an isolationist — the next step to a population led by a dictator. I weep for the country of my birth!

UCP government in over its head

I would like to believe that Albertans see the blatantly obvious blame-the-federal-government game from people who are in over their heads trying to work a government, especially the radio show talk host.

I have written to the Cochrane MLA/minister regarding the homeless encampment by the Petro-Canada that spews hated and profanity in its signs on a highway travelled by many a tourist. My answer back: Are you a constituent in this region? Apparently, ministers only deal within their constituency. I write to the Spruce Grove MLA/minister and I received no response to three emails with the latest response: We will review your concerns. All responses sent by secretaries.

Tax dollars are spent on panels, reviews and ad campaigns. Do Albertans understand that all the issues: homelessness, high utility costs, health care, food scarcity and education have gotten greater in desperation due to decades of conservative governments and their beliefs? Is it coincidental that all provinces with consecutive conservative governments have huge homelessness, high utilities costs, health-care, food-scarcity and education issues? Albertans, stop being sheep and start saying, no more. This is not a federal problem; it is a provincial problem and has been for decades.
