G20: Indonesia offers US$30 million to WHO

JAKARTA, NOV 21 – Indonesia is committed to providing US$30 million to support the World Health Organization (WHO), said President Prabowo Subianto during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last Tuesday.

“We are ready to provide US$30 million to close the funding gap for WHO activities. We hope that this donation can have a positive impact on the good work done by the United Nations,” he said according to the report BETWEEN.

He then invited other G20 countries to continue the group’s positive impact on collective action to address global challenges, including health issues, climate change, hunger and poverty.

“The ‘power of assembly’ of the G20 must unite and bring together developed and emerging economies, by uniting different views in response to the world’s most pressing challenges, in the spirit of transparency, inclusiveness and consensus as essential principles in our G20,” he said.

Outside the summit, Prabowo also held discussions with WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, according to Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

In a post on his Instagram account, he said the two figures discussed the current challenges facing the WHO amid a dynamic global situation.

“President @prabowo conveyed Indonesia’s commitment to support WHO’s activities in strengthening a fair and quality global health system,” wrote Indrawati. – Named
