Geese die from bird flu, CDC confirms 11 human cases

SAN FRANCISCO, NOV 17 – A red-necked swan at Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle, reportedly died earlier this week from a suspected case of bird flu, according to a statement from the zoo.

Pending confirmatory testing, it is expected to be the first case of bird flu at Woodland Park Zoo.

The zoo also explained that bird flu is a potential threat to mammals, but the risk to humans is low.

The zoo also stated that visitors are not exposed or in direct contact with the red-necked goose.

Washington health authorities are now investigating the state’s first case of human infection after four agricultural workers tested positive for bird flu in October.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 11 cases of human infection in the state. – Xinhua
