Accidents and natural disasters: According to Germany’s Meteorological Institute, 130 millimeters of rain was recorded in Kisslegg in the state of Baden-Württemberg in the southwest of the country on Friday. Normally 118 millimeters of rain per month tends to fall at this time of year.

In Bad Wörishofen in the neighboring state of Bavaria, 129 millimeters of rain fell within a day. Normally, it falls 101 millimeters a month.

Measurements in several other places show the same tendency.

The heavy rain has led to extensive flooding in Bavaria, among other places. On Sunday, it became clear that a 42-year-old rescue worker died when a boat capsized near Pfaffenhofen. The boat was carrying four rescue workers who were trying to reach people who have been isolated by the flood. The other three managed to get to safety.

The extreme weather has also led to Deutsche Bahn having to cancel all departures between the cities of Stuttgart and Augsburg.
