Policy: At the international air show in Berlin on Wednesday, Scholz said that the order will be placed before next year’s election.

The order for 20 new Eurofighter aircraft from Airbus is in addition to 38 aircraft ordered in 2020 to replace older Tornado aircraft in the German Air Force.

Scholz said that Germany will also plan to produce more aircraft with a view to export.

– We want to ensure continued utilization of the capacity at Airbus’ Eurofighter factory in Manching in Bavaria, said Scholz.

Germany has spent large sums on defense equipment after Scholz announced a special budget of 100 billion euros – almost 1150 billion kroner – to replenish the military stockpiles in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
