Sport: The Norwegian finished fifth in the first preliminary heat after running out of energy at the end. Grønstad lost several places on the run after being far ahead in the field all the way.

– I stiffen. I don’t really know… I felt really good with 200 meters to go. I felt like I was in control until there were 50 meters to go, but then I couldn’t do it anymore. It is not good enough, said Grønstad to NRK.

He took the lead from the start and was in the top three for a long time. Frenchman Gabriel Tual advanced quickly towards the end and won the heat in 1.45.69.

Grønstad’s time was long lived, but the last heat went so quickly that he did not make it among the four who advanced in time. Ole Jakob Solbu is in the semi-finals after winning his heat.

Grønstad recently set a personal record with 1.44.67 during the Bislett Games and thus qualified for the Olympics in Paris later this summer.

In May, he also set a Norwegian best time in the 600 meters when he ran 1.14.56 at a meeting in Germany.

16 runners will be in action in the semi-finals of the EC.
