Policy: The statement from the Ukrainian General Staff came on Tuesday evening.

– In certain sectors in the area of Lukjantsi and Vovtshansk, units have moved to more favorable positions as a consequence of enemy fire and storm attacks, the statement said.

The purpose was to save the lives of the soldiers and avoid casualties.

Since last week, the Russians have attacked and advanced in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine. They themselves claim to be far past Ukrainian defense lines. Allegedly, they have captured at least ten villages.

Ukraine also confirms that the Russian invasion forces are advancing.

“The enemy is achieving tactical success at the moment,” the Ukrainian General Staff wrote in an update on social media on Monday.

More than 7,500 people have been evacuated from Vovchansk and nearby areas, which are close to the border with Russia.

The city of Kharkiv – capital of the region of the same name – is the second largest in Ukraine. Here, at least 20 people were injured in a Russian airstrike that hit an apartment block on Tuesday, according to local authorities.
