He busted out more than a dance move at salsa night: Pepper Pike Police Blotter

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio

Disturbance, assault, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, failure to comply with a police order, reckless operation, driving under suspension: Pinetree, Lander roads

Police responded to a disturbance around 2 a.m. Sept. 21 at Restaurant Europa, which had been hosting salsa night until a man allegedly started insulting other patrons, was asked to leave multiple times and attacked a bartender.

After an officer identified the suspect, the Los Angeles man, 39, went out to his white Toyota Camry and wound up driving over the grass and mulch bed on the North Plaza property before heading north on Lander Road.

With speeds reaching up to 70 mph and a strong possibility the driver was impaired, police halted the pursuit and put together a long list of charges.

Eventually reached over the phone when he was back in California, the suspect denied ever being in the bar, despite what police called a “plethora of evidence” to the contrary.

He was advised not to return to Europa but to come back to Ohio and turn himself in at the police station.

Suspicion (scam): Meadowlark Way

A couple reported Sept. 19 they had been receiving suspicious emails and phone calls from someone claiming to have access to the browser history on their computer.

Police said it amounted to a fairly well-known extortion scheme — this one riddled with grammatical errors — demanding a Bitcoin conversion payment of $1,950 to avoid going public with the would-be victims’ personal information.

Police added that if the people contacted don’t do anything in the generic phishing scam, nothing happens as a result, with the residents in this case not being out any money.

Traffic stop, warrant: Lander Road

After notification through Flock Safety cameras of a car driving through town with the registered owner showing active warrants around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 20, police located the driver on the Ursuline College campus a short time later.

The Cleveland man, 20, was turned over to Highland Heights police and also cited for driving under suspension.

Disturbance: Cambridge Lane

Police were called to a dispute involving two adult sisters at a residence on Sept. 23 and mediated the situation.

Disturbance: Gates Mills Boulevard

Police responded to a dispute at a home on Sept. 24 between a father and adult daughter. That situation was mediated, although police sent information to the city prosecutor for consideration of possible charges.
