Sport: Van Aert has been out of competition since he destroyed his collarbone in the one-day race Dwars door Vlaanderen at the end of March. The following day he underwent surgery for the injury, and the 29-year-old has since spent the time rehabilitating.

At the beginning of May, the Belgian Het Laatste Nieuws wrote that the Belgian had set his sights on a comeback when the Tour of Norway kicks off at Voss on 23 May. Now is confirmed the comeback.

– It has not been easy to sit on the sidelines, but now I can look ahead. I look forward to being back. The main goal will be to see how I am doing. I have no expectations beyond that, says Van Aert to the team’s website.

Visma is one of seven WorldTour teams participating in the Tour of Norway. Ineos, Lidl-Trek, Alpecin-Deceuninck, DSM, Bora–hansgrohe and Intermarché-Wanty are the other six. Uno-X is also at the start.

Van Aert has wreaked havoc on the international cycling scene in recent years, and the Visma rider has recorded nine stage victories in the Tour de France. The broken collarbone in Dwars door Vlaanderen came right at the front of a long series of spring classics.

– It’s great to have Wout back, and it’s a great opportunity for him to test himself in competition. He rides without pressure, says Visma’s sports director Merijn Zeeman.

On 11 April, it was announced that this year’s Giro d’Italia will go without the Belgian 29-year-old.

– I am disappointed to lose my second biggest goal for the season, but I have to prioritize my health and give my body the time it takes to get well again, Van Aert said after the decision was made.
