Holiday Home Tour showcases historic Medina homes

MEDINA, Ohio – Guests will have the opportunity to check out the beauty and charm of some of the city’s historic homes during the 2023 Medina Community Design Holiday Home Tour.

The tour, which will take place Dec. 8 from noon to 5 p.m., will feature five historic and decorated Medina homes ready to create a festive feel during the holiday season.

Doc Loomis, of 224 West Washington Street, said he is both nervous and excited for his pre-Victorian home to be part of the tour this year.

“We finally said yes after three years,” he said. “For a while, we didn’t feel the house was quite ready for the tour. A lot of people buy older houses and make them more modern, but we like to buy houses and walk them back to their original background.”

Loomis said he and his wife have lived in the house for five years and have steadily made renovations, changing paint colors to more classic styles, pulling up flooring and adding chandeliers, candelabras, changing draperies and adding furniture more appropriate for the period the house was built.

“It really is a fun honor to be a part of the tour,” he said.

Loomis said he also made sure to use Christmas decorations more appropriate for the time period the house was built including pre-Victorian ornaments, sliced oranges and greenery.

Loomis said that after doing some research, he believes the home was built around 1859 and was moved to its current location around the turn of the 20th century.

“It was somewhat common then for houses that had been built on the outskirts of town to be relocated into town,” he said.
