Sport: The Oslo boy was in joint 17th place after the opening day. The start of day two was very bad.

Hovland started the round with bogey, before he followed up with an extremely rare triple bogey on hole two. He then went for par on the next hole, before making a double bogey and bogeys on holes four and five.

Holes six to twelve ended with par, but after two bogeys and a double bogey on the last six holes, the 26-year-old finished according to NRK with his worst round in a professional tournament an 80 at the 2018 European Open.

Friday’s fade ended round two on 81 strokes, and thus it was a new low for the Norwegian. Cuten finished six strokes over par, two strokes short of Hovland, who finished eight over.

Americans Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa lead the tournament after Friday’s play at six under par. The closest is Danish Nicolai Højgaard, who is four under par.

Scheffler has two wins and one second place in his last three tournaments. The American has been in great form since last autumn, and many have kept him as favourite.

Reigning champion Jon Rahm has not had a good start to the tournament either. After two rounds, he is five strokes over par in a shared 44th place.
