Before the Cavs (17-1) get another shot at Boston on Dec. 1, they will have a home and home against the Hawks. Cleveland continues to gain ground in the Central Division, holding an eight-game lead in the standings. They remain steady atop the East with a two-game lead over the Celtics.
With a renewed passion under first-year head coach Kenny Atkinson, Cleveland has captured the attention of the NBA with an offensive hustle that had been missing.
The Cavs are first in points per game and field goal percentage, including a league-leading 3-point percentage. Their defense has taken a step back, but still potent, notching top-10 spots in points per game allowed and opponents field goal percentage.
Cleveland also holds a 12.3 average margin of victory, which leads the league.
Superstar Donovan Mitchell and resurgent point guard Darius Garland continue to shine in Cleveland’s backcourt. Mitchell is averaging 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 47% from the field. Garland touts 20.3 points, 6.9 assists and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 48.8% from the field.
Power forward Evan Mobley and center Jarrett Allen patrol the paint on both sides of the ball. Mobley is averaging 17.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 56.3% from the field. Allen comes in with a double-double at 14.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 68.8%, which is the second-highest percentage in the league.
They’ll clash with veteran center Clint Capela, who averages a double-double in his career (21 games) against the Cavs at 11.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.
Backup shooting guard Ty Jerome continues his rise up the ladder. He is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds while shooting 59.7% from the field.
Cleveland is one of the cleanest teams in the league, ranking sixth in turnovers per game. They’ll try to sharpen the knife even further on a Hawks squad searching for consistency.

The Hawks (7-11) are on a three-game slide, but have the biggest win of the season in their back pocket, clipping the Celtics in Emirates NBA Cup group play 117-116 on Nov. 12.
Superstar guard Trae Young is averaging 21.9 points, a league-leading 11.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 38.5% from the field. Young has recorded a subpar shooting campaign thus far, but the Hawks’ offense is substantially better when he is on the court.
The Hawks tout the ninth-highest offense in the league, but are just 19th in field goal percentage. Defense has been an overall struggle as they are 28th in the league in opponents points per game.
Emerging guard Dyson Daniels has notched 14.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 45.1% from the field. Daniels’ defensive presence jumps out with just over three steals per game.
Small forward Jalen Johnson is averaging 19.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 48.4% from the field. Small forward De’Andre Hunter comes in with 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 43.7% from the field.
Capela could be difference maker for a Hawks team that was outrebounded and defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in their last game. Capela is averaging 11.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 62.6% from the field.
Atlanta is 24th in turnovers, which could lead to a fast-break clinic for a red-hot Cavs team that can pile up points in the fastbreak.
