Pixar-style art reimagines the poster for each of the Harry Potter movies, and they make Hogwarts even more charming. Adapting the books of controversial author J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter franchise would become a major hit for Warner Bros., introducing live-action versions of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, played by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, respectively. While there are seven books in Rowling’s main saga, there are eight films, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows having been split into two.

Each of the posters highlights a different element from the films, with Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone, for example, bringing an animated version of Hogsmeade Station to life, while Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire sees Harry flying on his broom next to a dragon during the Triwizard Tournament.

Over the course of the eight films, Harry’s story becomes a little darker and the stakes become more grand, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, for example, featuring numerous character deaths and essentially serving as a big battle. The earlier films, however, are decidedly more whimsical and suitable for younger audiences, and it’s the atmosphere in these initial installments that suggests an animated Harry Potter would work.
In the first movie, each of the three main Harry Potter characters are just 11 years old, and the tone of the film is in keeping with their ages. The charm of Hogwarts is a major focus in the story, with Harry blown away by this magical world he’s only just discovered. While Hogwarts and all its secrets do seem ripe for a transition into the world of animation, magic itself may also excel in the medium, with animation allowing for interesting stylization when it comes spells and their effects.
What’s more, some of the central themes of the larger Harry Potter story arefriendship and family, with Harry essentially discovering new family members with Ron and Hermione, who help him through his biggest challenges. Even Dumbledore is a clear father figure. These types of dynamics and themes are popular in the world of animation, especially in fare aimed at younger audiences. While the upcoming Max Harry Potter TV show will once again adapt Rowling’s novel in live-action, the latest batch of art suggests there could also be a future for the franchise in animation.
