Injuring the stepson with dumbbells

KUALA LUMPUR, NOV 19 – A laundry shop worker pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to the charge of causing serious injury to his stepson by using dumbbells.

Low Thiam Wun, 42, is accused of committing the act on Yu Wei Ting, 17, by using a dumbbell-type exercise device in a condominium in Jalan Putra, Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur at 10pm, 9 November last.

The charge is under Section 326 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nidzuwan Abd Latip proposed a bail of RM18,000 with one surety and the additional condition that the accused not approach or disturb the victim.

Lawyer Minnie Chew, who represented the accused, asked for low bail on the grounds that his client supports his family, including his wife and two children who are still studying.

Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin allowed the accused to be bailed at RM10,000 with one surety and additional conditions as requested by the prosecution and fixed December 12 for the mention of the case. – Named
