Both are attending a meeting under the auspices of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, where ministers from a number of Arab and Western countries have gathered to discuss a ceasefire. Also on the agenda is a longer-term peace plan, which involves the creation of a Palestinian state side by side with Israel.

The US, Egypt and Qatar have been trying to broker a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas since January. A number of other countries have also been involved in the experiments.

A Hamas delegation was expected to meet mediators from Egypt and Qatar in Cairo on Monday to discuss Hamas’ response to the Israeli proposal. On Sunday evening, a senior Hamas source said that the group views the proposal positively.
