PUTRAJAYA, 25 NOV – The Immigration Department (JIM) will introduce an online special pass (eSP) from January 2025, which is one of the initiatives to transform service delivery towards digitization and speed up government affairs, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
A special passport is a document issued to foreigners intended to give the holder the right to enter and stay in Malaysia for not more than thirty days based on regulation 14, Immigration Regulations 1963.
According to Saifuddin Nasution, currently the business of applying for and issuing a special pass is done manually, which means that the applicant has to come to the counter and present the documents physically.
“On average, 50 percent of the total transactions at the Social and Professional Visit Pass counter in the Visa, Passport and Permit Division of the Immigration Department are related to special pass applications and this results in congestion.
“The implementation of this eSP will help reduce the congestion of customers who come to deal at the counter as well as apply a new work culture silent office,” he told reporters after attending the KDN Monthly Assembly here today, which was also attended by the Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
For the record, in 2023, a total of 139,344 special passes have been issued while as of October this year, a total of 119,019 special passes have been issued to foreigners. – Named
