Jon Stewart to extend 'Daily Show' hosting gig through 2025

Jon Stewart to extend 'Daily Show' hosting gig through 2025

(The Hill) — Jon Stewart is inking a deal to keep him behind the desk at “The Daily Show” for at least another year.

The comedian will continue hosting the Monday editions of the Comedy Central show through December 2025, the network announced Monday. Stewart will also continue to serve as the show’s executive producer.

The news that Stewart will remain as “The Daily Show’s” part-time host — with a rotating cast of correspondents behind the desk on other weeknights — comes nine months after his return to his old stomping grounds was announced to much fanfare. Stewart’s homecoming in February netted the show its highest ratings in over half a decade.

“I’ve truly enjoyed being back working with the incredible team at ‘The Daily Show’ and Comedy Central,” Stewart said in a statement about extending his deal with the network. “I was really hoping they’d allow me to do every other Monday, but I’ll just have to suck it up…,” he added.

Praising 61-year-old Stewart as “one of the most important voices in political and cultural commentary today,” Paramount Global co-CEO Chris McCarthy said his “ability to cut through the noise and deliver clear-eyed insights is exactly what we need which is why we are thrilled to have him leading ‘The Daily Show’ for another year.”

Stewart served as the show’s host for 16 years before stepping down in 2015.

Last week, Comedy Central said Stewart would host a one-hour election night live special on Nov. 5 called “Indecision 2024: Nothing We Can Do About it Now.”
