Crime and justice: The trial against him is in a court in the family’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. The first day in court was jury selection, and before the day was over, a jury of twelve people was in place. Thus, the opening proceedings in the case start on Tuesday.

54-year-old Hunter Biden appeared in federal court with his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden. Shortly after, the stepmother also arrived, US first lady Jill Biden.

The president’s son pleads not guilty to all three charges: One for illegal storage of weapons, and two for having lied about his drug use when he bought a firearm in 2018.

The trial is being held in the middle of Joe Biden’s election campaign before the presidential election in November. The week before, his rival Donald Trump – as the first former US president – was convicted in a criminal case. Trump was found guilty of violating the Accounting Act on 34 charges. He also has several other criminal cases against him.

The case is one of two criminal cases against Hunter Biden. He is also accused of failing to pay 1.4 million dollars in taxes between 2016 and 2019. Instead, he is said to have spent large sums on drugs and expensive cars, among other things. This trial starts in September.

– And I think the president himself will also respect the ruling – despite the fact that it hurts, I would think, to see one of his children in court, he told CNN Sunday.

President Biden has said that he supports his son and is happy that he is trying to recover from drug addiction.

– As president, I will not comment on ongoing federal matters, but as a father, I say that I have boundless love for my son, trust in him and respect for his strength, Biden said in a statement on Monday.

Biden emphasized that he is president, but also a father.

If the jury finds him guilty of the three charges, he risks up to 25 years in prison. In practice, however, the offenses he is accused of here are rarely punished with prison.

Democrat Adam Schiff, an ally of Joe Biden, has said his party will respect the jury’s ruling regardless of the outcome of the case.
