WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Secretary of State’s office initiated a 2024 general election post-election audit on Wednesday morning.
During the process, the Secretary of State’s office selected one federal, legislative, and county race for auditing in each county.
Once selections are made, each county election office will be notified of the races to be audited. Each county election office will then randomly select 1% of the precincts within each race to be audited.
Ballots from these selected precincts will be hand-counted to verify that the hand count aligns with the tabulated vote count. A sworn bipartisan election board consisting of trained members will conduct audits.
Post-election audits were first conducted in 2019 under Secretary Scott Schwab’s administration. Audits must be completed before the county canvass, which must take place by Nov. 18.
