Sport: Jepchirchir is a big favorite to defend his marathon gold from the Tokyo Games in 2021 during this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

On Sunday she was in her own class in London. In the end, she left world record holder Tigst Assefa and two other rivals behind and entered the race alone in front of Buckingham Palace.

Assefa came second, while Joyciline Jepkosgei took third place.

The winning time was more than four minutes slower than Assefa’s world record set in Berlin last year. At the same time, Jepchirchir posted the fastest time ever in an all-female marathon field.

The top women started 30 minutes ahead of the men in London on Sunday. In other contexts, they run together.

On the men’s side, there was also a Kenyan victory in London. Alexander Mutiso Munyao beat veteran Kenenisa Bekele and was clocked in at 2.04.01.
