BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 18 – The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS) is taking seriously a viral video on social media regarding an incident involving several members of the national football team while in the Russian Federation to participate in a friendly match FIFA Days from November 12 to 18.
In a statement issued by KKBS, today, the ministry takes the matter seriously because it tarnishes the image of the country, the reputation and integrity of national athletes who represent Brunei Darussalam at the international level.
KKBS emphasized that the responsibility of representing the country does not only involve performance on the playing field but also behavior outside the playing field, which needs to respect and adhere to the discipline, ethics and values that reflect Brunei’s identity as a Malay Muslim Monarchy.
As stated in the KKBS Press Release on October 8, the ministry remains committed to upholding high standards of accountability and integrity and further reminds all association officers and sports athletes to always comply with rules, laws and codes of ethics, especially when representing the country and maintain the image and good name of Brunei.
Each member of the entourage, whether players or officials, is required to maintain the image of the country by adhering to the values of discipline, responsibility, ethics, and good behavior, both on and off the playing field.
Any breach of the code of ethics or failure to comply with discipline is unacceptable and will be dealt with accordingly.
A full investigation will be carried out by the relevant parties and further preventive measures will be implemented to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
