Olav Kooij resumes his season in the Tour of Poland. The young Dutchman has already won stages in three stage races this year and Jumbo Visma also gives him a leadout in Poland.
At the beginning of this year, Kooij made an impression between the big boys in the UAE Tour and the Tirreno-Adriatico, but the victories only followed later. It was twice in the Circuit Cysliste Sarthe, he won a stage in the Tour of Hungary and in June he was no less than three times the strongest in the ZLM Toer. He wrote that stage race to his name.
In the Tour of Poland Kooij will face strong sprinters with Mark Cavendish, Sam Bennett and Pascal Ackermann, among others. He’s ready. “It’s going really well this season, but that certainly doesn’t mean I’m already saturated for the current calendar year. After the NK I deliberately took a short break. Then I got ready for the last block of the season. It has now gone on long enough. I’m excited to race and can’t wait to get involved in the battle for the stage wins.” a press release from Jumbo Visma.
In principle, Kooij goes for all possible bunch sprints in Poland. ‘I estimate beforehand that there are three stages that will end in a bunch sprint. Maybe there are four, but a number of rides have a nasty ending. I feel a lot of confidence from the team and hope to seal that with a stage win somewhere in the coming stages. Then the Tour of Poland is a success for me.’ Jumbo-Visma also proposes in Poland in addition to Kooij
