Curiosities and celebrities: Payson High School in Utah is to be demolished next spring, and on Saturday the students were visited by the actor at a prom where the theme was precisely “Footloose”. In the 1984 film, Bacon played a teenager who moves from Chicago to a small town, where he takes up the fight against a local dance ban. The film ends with a prom.

– You persuaded me. It’s great to see people standing up for something. I also think it’s amazing to see how this movie has been able to bring people together, Bacon said, according to a note posted by local TV station ABC 4.

Principal Jesse Sorenson, who graduated from the school in 1995, says the title song from “Footloose” is always played at prom, while students reenact the final scene from the film. He says that for years the students have been trying to persuade Bacon to come to the small town, which has around 21,000 inhabitants and is located about ten miles south of Salt Lake City. It started with a few posts on social media, but developed into a campaign where the whole local community worked together to support a charity run by the film star.

One of the things that was done to convince the actor to come was to promise to put together 5,000 packages of clothes, toiletries and other necessities. On Saturday, Bacon stood side by side with students and other local contributors to pack backpacks with relief packages.
