Liverpool are solid at the top of the league

SOUTHAMPTON, NOV 25 – Mohamed Salah scored twice in the second half to ensure Liverpool remain eight points clear at the top of the English Premier League, after the league leaders were almost stunned by bottom side Southampton yesterday.

Arne Slot’s side took the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai’s second goal of the season, but Southampton equalized through Adam Armstrong before the break at St Mary’s.

Mateus Fernandes then put Southampton ahead shortly after the start of the second half, before Salah stepped up to save Liverpool’s honour.

Salah calmly scored the equalizer before showing remarkable composure to convert the penalty late in the game, making it 12 goals in all competitions this season and six in his last five Premier League appearances.

Thanks to Salah’s last-gasp performance, Liverpool now leave defending champions Manchester City far behind after the team’s humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham on Saturday.

Slott has made an incredible start in charge of Liverpool, winning 16 out of 18 games in all competitions.

The former Feyenoord manager provided his special touch, making Liverpool favorites to win a first Premier League title since 2020, in his debut season at Anfield after replacing Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool weren’t at their best against Southampton, but the hard-fought victory was the perfect start to the critical period ahead.
