BEREA, Ohio – Due to deterioration, nine cul-de-sacs in the Longbrooke Estates Subdivision in Berea will be reconstructed beginning in April 2025.
The work is dependent on City Council passage of an ordinance authorizing Director of Public Service Tony Armagno to advertise for bids and execute the necessary contracts to plan and complete the project. Council members heard the legislation’s first of three public readings at their Nov. 4 regular meeting.
“The condition of the cul-de-sacs has deteriorated to the point that if not reconstructed in a timely manner, they may soon present a safety risk to the traveling public,” the ordinance says.
Slated for reconstruction are north and south Brigton Circle, Perham Circle (north and south), Crossbrook Circle (south of Merrimak Drive), Tauton Circle (north and south), Duxbury Circle and Putney Circle.
Councilwoman Mary Brown asked Armagno about residential parking during construction.
“Because of the nature of this reconstruction, there will be times when residents will be out of their driveways and the road will not be accessible,” Armagno said.
“Emergency vehicles will be able to get through when needed, but there will be cure times for concrete, asphalt and cement stabilized subgrade when vehicles cannot be on it.
“Fortunately, we have the parking along Merrimak Drive. As for the sequencing of work, I can’t imagine the contractor will try to do all nine cul-de-sacs at one time. So, we typically leave the sequencing of which ones they do in what order up to the contractor.”
He added those details will be determined after a contractor is selected.
Councilman Rick Skoczen asked that any disabled or elderly residents be accommodated during construction if they should happen to need “extra assistance getting to or from their house, or for groceries, or things like that.”
