Sport: West Ham confirms now the expected employment of the Spaniard. Lopetegui has been linked to the job for a long time.

David Moyes is stepping down as manager this summer. The club management is obviously not satisfied with the Scot’s results.

Football expert Lars Tjærnås says the following to NTB about the employment of Lopetegui:

– I think it could be a wise appointment. He has the experience, expertise and authority to do so. But no managers come with a guarantee stamp, and the way he left Wolves suggests that he must have done a good enough preparatory work for this to work.

– I am very happy, first of all, to be able to be part of the future of this great club. We will try to leave our mark on the club, says the Spaniard in a statement and continues:

– My ambition as a coach is always to get better and better, and to achieve more and bigger goals as well as to encourage and improve the players and the team.

Lopetegui has several good credentials to show for it. Among other things, he won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020.

The club stated that the announcement of Moyes’ exit came already before the end of the season in order for the club to give him the tribute he deserved at the end of the season.

In his last match as West Ham manager, there was a 1-3 loss to league champions Manchester City. The London club eventually finished ninth in the Premier League table.

The 57-year-old Lopetegui has been out of work since he was fired in Wolverhampton last August. The Spaniard has previously managed Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.

West Ham struggled badly towards the end of the current season, and the day after the 0-5 loss to Chelsea on 5 May, the club confirmed that Moyes’ days as manager were numbered after the season.
