French President Emmanuel Macron, who has to appoint a prime minister two months after the snap elections, is considering the candidacy of Michel Barnier, the former negotiator of France on the issue of Brexit, writes Reuters.
The 73-year-old conservative politician previously held positions in various French governments and was also an EU commissioner.
A source close to Barnier told Reuters that “there have been contacts” with the president’s office.
