Sport: Thus there will be a decisive match between the two.

Carlsen is chasing his ninth straight tournament victory this year. The first match had to be decided in armageddon where Firouzja managed a draw and thus won the duel.

Rapid chess was played, and Carlsen opened the duel against Firouzja, who represents France, with white pieces. The first game ended in a draw after 35 moves.

In the second game, where Carlsen had replied, there was a terrific final sprint where the players took turns to have the upper hand on the board. It still ended in a draw after 52 moves.

The 33-year-old from Bærum, however, struck in the third game and won after 58 moves. In the fourth game, it looked like the Norwegian would emerge victorious, but he missed an advantageous move, and the French-Iranian took advantage of the blunder and won the game. Then there was a clearly disappointed and cursed Carlsen.

It all had to be decided in armageddon, but first the players bid on who would have black pieces. Carlsen bet on 8.26 minutes while Firouzja bid 8.04. Thus the Norwegian got white and the French-Iranian black. In armageddon, white must win, because black is satisfied with a draw.

The second duel will be played later tonight.

At the weekend, Carlsen won a Grand Chess tournament in Poland for the second time in a row.
