Officers found the female victim at the hotel, and she reported that her boyfriend, who stayed at the Extended Stay Hotel in Avon, was over the night before. They had a disagreement over childcare, which resulted in the 29-year-old man pushing the woman against a wall by the throat in front of the man’s 10-year-old child. The woman said that she lost consciousness. Officers documented the physical injuries by taking pictures.

Officers took the man into custody at the Avon hotel and charged him with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault.

Westlake officers stopped the truck on Clague Road and learned that the 30-year-old Cleveland Heights man did not have a valid license and was wanted on a warrant from the Cleveland Heights Police Department for prior traffic tickets. A 30-year-old Cleveland male passenger appeared intoxicated and had an open 22-ounce can of Icehouse beer.

Officers found a loaded 9 mm pistol in the glove compartment. The driver had several past convictions that prohibited him from gun possession. The driver was cited for driving under suspension, and both men were charged with improper handling of a firearm.

The disagreement resulted in one man striking the other in the head with a beer bottle. Alcohol appeared to play a factor in the melee, according to the police.
