SOLON, Ohio —
Drug offense: Bainbridge Road
At 5:20 a.m. Nov. 23, an officer stopped a Chevrolet Impala seen head west on Bainbridge Road without activated headlights. The Chevy, in addition, was crossing the center lines and was traveling 48 miles per hour in the 35-MPH zone.
Police cited the driver, a Youngstown man, 38, for the violations and for driving with a suspended license, and an officer prepared to give him a courtesy ride to his workplace. As the ride was given, however, police found in the car a smoking pipe and methamphetamine powder.
The officer giving the ride arrested the man on charges of drug possession, a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The driver was also cited for driving left of center and driving under suspension.
Fraud: Solon Road
At 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22, a Solon man, 21, went to the police station to report that his Instagram account had been hacked. The man sought to gain back control of his account and used to Google to find a phone number to call Instagram.
The man called a number and a male answered and said he could clean up the account for $249.
The man sent $249 via Cash App, per the male’s instructions. After receiving the money, the suspect did not respond to the man.
The transaction is not reversible.
Police warn residents that tech support phone numbers found via online searches often lead to cases of fraud.
Domestic violence: Cannon Road
At 7:25 a.m. Nov. 23, officers were dispatched to a home in the 28000 block of Cannon Road where a man and woman were involved in a dispute. Officers arrived to find the two parties separated.
The house was in disarray with items, including broken glass, on the floor.
The man, 40, of Solon, told police that there had also been incidents between the two on Nov. 3 and Nov. 21 during which he had been hit with objects thrown by the woman, 40, and scratched by her in the face.
The woman gave a different account, but police arrested her for domestic violence. The man requested a protection order against the woman.
Theft: Aurora Road
At 12:50 p.m. Nov. 23, officers were dispatched to the pharmacy at Giant Eagle, 34310 Aurora Road, where a medical tool box had been stolen.
The incident occurred two days before police were called. A man was seen standing for about a half-hour close by the pharmacy consulting room. When a manager asked the man if needed help, the man replied that he did not.
The man, who was wearing sunglasses and a blue apron over gray sweatpants, as well as a hooded sweatshirt, eventually left the store via the curb pickup doors. He did not buy anything.
Staff members, thinking the man suspicious, looked at video and saw that he left with the box, which contained about $1,200 worth of equipment and medications, notably Epinephrine.
Police are investigating.
