FAIRVIEW, Kan. (KSNW) – A man has died following a crash in northeast Kansas.
KSNT in Topeka reports that it happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 36, about five miles west of Fairview in Brown County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Richard Childress, 76, of Hiawatha, was heading east on the highway when he suddenly left the road near an intersection for an unknown reason.
Childress entered a ditch, struck a road sign, and then went airborne over the intersecting roadway. His 2016 Kia Sorento rolled several times, ejecting him from the car.
Childress was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
No one else was in the car with Childress at the time of the crash.
