BEACHWOOD, Ohio —
Warrant arrest: Chagrin Boulevard
At 3:25 a.m. Nov. 23, an officer on patrol saw a dark-colored Nissan Rogue speed past him on Chagrin Boulevard westbound, traveling 59 miles per hour in the 35-MPH zone. The officer activated his overhead lights and turned around to follow the Rogue as it passed Richmond Road, went through a red light, and crossed the bridge over I-271.
The vehicle then turned into the lot at 27500 Chagrin Blvd. The driver got out and began to walk away from the Rogue as the officer arrived and told him to stop. When asked why he was driving so fast, the man said that he was “trying to get to (his) woman.” He pointed to an Orange Place hotel as his destination.
He also said he pulled into the lot because he was cheating on a woman and wanted to park away from the hotel. He admitted to having seen the officer’s overhead lights.
It was found that the man was wanted on traffic warrants issued by police in Highland Heights, Cleveland Heights and Willoughby Hills. He was also wanted on a Maple Heights police warrant for domestic violence. The Cleveland man, 30, had his license suspended for failing to pay child support.
It was learned that the Rogue belonged to the woman against whom he had been violent, and that she had a protection order against him. He had also been charged in the domestic violence matter for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Police handcuffed the man because of his known violent tendencies.
Beachwood police charged the man with violating a protection order, disobeying a traffic signal, speeding and driving with a suspended license. His license was found to also have five other open suspensions.
Domestic violence: Wimbledon Road
At 10:05 a.m. Nov. 20, police were called to a home where a mother and daughter had been involved in physical disputes two days earlier.
On the afternoon of Nov. 18, the daughter got onto her computer, which she was not allowed to do. Her mother used her phone to turn off the internet. The daughter became angry and pushed her mother, pulled her hair and spit in her face.
At 7:50 p.m. that night, the mother found that her daughter had been using her school computer. When discovered, the daughter began yelling and followed her mother to the bathroom, then blocked the bathroom door for 15-20 minutes and threatened to harm her.
The mother told police that she did not want her daughter arrested. Police explained to the mother that they did not have the option to merely document the incidents and attempted to place the daughter with the county’s juvenile detention center. The center, however, declined to accept her.
The mother told police that she would allow her daughter, charged with domestic violence, to stay in her house and signed papers for police to release her daughter to her.
Disorderly conduct: Shaker Boulevard
At 3:35 p.m. Nov. 20, a woman contacted police to report that her son had been threatened by another boy, a classmate at Fuchs Mizrachi School, 26600 Shaker Blvd. The woman said that the other boy had threatened to kill her son because he mistakenly took his yogurt.
The woman said her son has been threatened by the other boy in the past and that she had sent two email threads of the threats to the school’s principal.
The woman’s son admitted to police that he pushed the other boy after being threatened.
Police spoke with a school counselor and principal, as well as the other boy’s father. Police suggested that the principal meet with the boys and their parents.
The woman did not wish to pursue criminal charges.
Theft: Chagrin Boulevard
At 12:45 p.m. Nov. 21, police took a report from the manager at Joe’s Kwik Mart, 25705 Chagrin Blvd., that a man took a can of beer from a pre-packaged six pack, rendering it unsaleable, and then concealed it in his pants before leaving the store without paying.
The man was wearing a Cleveland Browns jacket. Police found the man walking on Chagrin Boulevard and detained him.
He, at first, said he paid $1.53 for the can of beer, then said he stole it. In his pockets, the man had a couple of dollars in change. The six-pack was valued at $8.99.
Store surveillance video captured the theft. Police arrested the 53-year-old Cleveland resident for theft.
