AKRON, Ohio — Two men have been arrested after a 32-year-old man was shot and killed during a home invasion in the East Akron neighborhood, police say.
Akron resident Douglas Waters died of his wounds at the Summa Health System Akron Campus following the shooting early Friday morning at a residence on the 700 block of Wren Walk, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officers were called to the home at about 2:18 a.m. Friday, where they found Waters with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say the two suspects, identified as Gerald Wilson, 25, and DeVionne Bigby, 26, forced their way into the home through the front door, where they confronted Waters and shot him.
Police say they were able to quickly identify the suspects and that Wilson was wounded when he reportedly shot himself during the break-in. Officers found Wilson at an unspecified location on Vernon Odom Boulevard near East Avenue and took him into custody without incident, police say.
Bigby was arrested without incident at about 5:30 a.m. on the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue. Both suspects are being held in the Summit County Jail and are charged with murder, aggravated burglary, and felonious assault, police say.
