Sport: Verstappen started the race from second position behind Mercedes driver George Russell, but took the lead after 25 laps. He never gave it up on the way to his sixth win of the season.

It became exciting when the safety car had to come out and collect the field with 15 laps to go, but Verstappen held on and won. McLaren driver Lando Norris was second, while Russell took third.

Russell and Verstappen had equal times in qualifying on Saturday, but Russell started in the front lane after he had the best second time.

The Briton got a few seconds down on WC leader Verstappen early on, but the Dutchman fought his way back behind him.

After 20 rounds, there were several changes in the top positions. Norris had taken good care of his tires and passed both Verstappen and Russell in a short space of time, but a few laps later Verstappen had moved into the lead after everyone had pitted for a tire change.

Norris and McLaren tried to bet on switching to non-tread tires later than their rivals, but Verstappen just managed to keep the lead.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won the race at home in Monaco in late May. On Sunday, he was unlucky early on when he had engine trouble. He was clearly frustrated in the messages over the team radio, and after 43 laps he had to abandon the race. Ten laps later, teammate Carlos Sainz also had to throw in the towel, as did Sergio Perez after a small collision.

The next World Cup round takes place in Barcelona, Spain, in two weeks.
