MAYFIELD, Ohio — A resident reported an incident Nov. 25 in which she was investing in cryptocurrency and had been frauded out of $520,000 over the past two years.
She explained that she had been purchasing Bitcoin through various apps and using a company to manage her portfolio.
She discovered the fraud when she decided to withdraw money but was told that she needed to send a deposit to a specific person. Her bank subsequently did not allow the transfer because the recipient’s name was known to them as being part of a scam.
The incident has been reported on IC3.gov and reported to the attorney general. It is being investigated to determine if the entire value of her investment was made to a fraudulent business and if any of the money can be recouped.
