If the mediation is not successful, 33 of the country’s ferry connections will be affected.

– There will be mediation overtime, writes national mediator Mats Wilhelm Ruland in a text message to NTB.

The deadline for the mediations between NHO Maritime and the seamen’s organizations The Norwegian Machinists’ Association, the Norwegian Naval Officers’ Association and the Norwegian Seamen’s Association was at midnight. From experience, mediation can go a long way overtime as long as the parties believe they still have something to talk about.

A possible strike will affect 33 ferries from five shipping companies in all counties with a coastline except Agder. The worst will be beyond Western Norway and the E39, but also large ferry connections such as Moss-Horten, the passenger ferry Aker brygge-Nesodden and the express boat between Tromsø and Harstad may be affected.

The settlement includes wages and working conditions for machinists, shipmasters and the crew on ferries and in domestic shipping. In the first instance, 292 members in the three unions are ready to stop work from Saturday morning. In the event of an escalation of the conflict, over 3,000 members may be taken out.
