Medina County Law Library celebrates 125 years

Medina County Law Library celebrates 125 years

MEDINA, Ohio – For any resident who wants to get a better understanding of state and federal laws or better understand their own legal rights, the Medina County Law Library serves as a comprehensive resource for all citizens of Medina County.

The Medina County Law Library, which was incorporated in the State of Ohio Nov. 16, 1899, just recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. Initially the resources in the library were available to elected officials and lawyers only, but in 2010 the resources were opened to the public.

“We have the Ohio Revised code so that is all of the laws for the State of Ohio,” said Pat Walker, president of the Medina County Law Library Association. “We also have resources about case law so people can see what courts have said about the law. We have both digital resources and resources in book form. For example, if you are trying to find out what your rights are as a renter, we have a book on Ohio tenant law.”

Walker said the library also has a photocopy machine if anyone needs to copy part of the Ohio Revised Code or passages from other books inside the library.

The library is located at 93 Public Square, also known as the 1969 courthouse. Walker said the law library is currently the only entity operating inside of the building. She said the law library will remain in the courthouse even after the city moves the Medina Municipal Court into the building.

“While they are doing construction, the law library will be temporarily relocated, but then it is slated to move back there,” Walker said.
