MEDINA, Ohio – Thanks to a donation from the Tom and Jill Lincoln Foundation, the city will be able to include a new piece of land onto Ray Mellert Park.
Council recently approved legislation accepting the donation from the Tom and Jill Lincoln Foundation as well as legislation authorizing the mayor to enter into a purchase agreement with William B. Young, the administrator for the estate of Leila Hodges. The land in question is located at 334 Foundry Street and will expand the Foundry Street frontage at the park.
“The $20,500 donation from the Tom and Jill Lincoln Foundation will allow us to raze the house and restore the property,” Parks and Recreation Director Jansen Wehrley said. “The reason we needed an emergency clause was because the property needs to be transferred out of probate court. We thank the foundation for their consideration so we can continue to add to the expanded frontage on Foundry Street at Ray Mellert Park.”
Also during the meeting, council unanimously approved five mayoral appointments for boards and committees for next year. Confirmations included the appointments of Ariel Bly, Robert Mueller and Rick Kirby to the emerging technologies advisory committee, Chris Jackson to the board of building code appeals and Bert Humpal to the board of zoning appeals.
Also during the meeting, Mayor Dennis Hanwell announced that service department workers are back to collecting leaves.
“We had to take them off leaf collection last week and put them on salt and plow trucks,” Hanwell said. “But we are getting back to the leaves this entire week and as long as it takes next week. We are hoping the weather continues to hold up for us.”
