MEDINA, Ohio – Service Director Nino Piccoli said he has heard from many residents asking when fall leaf pickup will begin in Medina and he is happy to announce the work is now in full swing.
“We officially kicked that off today,” Piccoli said during an Oct. 28 council meeting, adding that leaves had been piling up in the square. “In Ward 1 there are not too many leaves yet, so they are over in the Forest Meadows area where there are quite a few piles.”
Piccoli said crews will be travelling to different areas of the city as the season continues. He asks property owners to rake leaves to the curb.
“Don’t rake them out to the street but get them as close to the curb as possible,” he said.
Also during the meeting, council approved the purchase of a Ventrac tractor for the street and water departments and Piccoli said he thinks the purchase will help make the departments more efficient.
“The parks and recreation department has one of these units and we find ourselves borrowing it all the time,” Piccoli said. “This is something we will use all year long.”
Piccoli said the tractor can be used as a snowblower and a broom which is helpful in the parking deck and also for sidewalk removal at intersections.
“That would be better than having a big truck remove the snow,” he said.
Piccoli added that the water department can use the tractor to repair water line breaks in the tree lawns.
“Typically a back hoe was used for that, but the back hoe does more damage so the cost is higher for restoration,” he said. “This smaller unit will be more efficient.”
