Sport: That’s what Pål Gunnar Mikkelsplass, newly appointed assistant coach for the women’s elite national team, tells us Dagbladet.

He has previously coached Therese Johaug when she was banned for doping, and now he is ready to help Østberg in his coaching role in the Norwegian Ski Association.

– Ingvild is a good friend of mine, so I will be in contact with her. I know she is keen to continue investing, but then there is a way to go. Being able to contribute to her in my spare time will be relevant for me. I promised her that a long time ago, so I will keep that promise, says Mikkelsplass to the newspaper.

Østberg disappeared from the national team after a season in which she was not allowed to run a single ski race because she did not meet the requirements for the Norwegian Ski Association’s health certificate.

However, she has fought back before, and in front of the local newspaper Oppland Arbeiderblad she states that she is aiming for the WC in Trondheim next winter.

– I have been through a great training winter without injury or illness. It’s boring not being able to go cross-country skiing, because that’s what I’d most like to do. At the same time, I have faith in the plan we have laid out, and I am very motivated by the WC in Trondheim, she says.

Østberg trains a lot with Therese Johaug and Helene Marie Fossesholm, who are also not in the national team at the moment.
