Policy: – Meta failed to give registered Instagram users immediate notice that their personal data would be used in a commercial context, AGCM says in a statement.

The fine is equivalent to NOK 40 million at today’s exchange rate.

The supervisory authority criticizes Meta’s handling of suspended Facebook and Instagram accounts.

– In particular, the fact that Meta does not say how they decide to suspend Facebook accounts, whether it is the result of an automatic or a “human” review, says the inspectorate. They also point out that users are not given information about how to appeal their suspension, including taking the case to a judge or an arbitration settlement.

In addition, the AGCM believes that the appeal period of 30 days is too short.

The inspectorate says Meta has changed its practice since the investigation began.

Meta did not immediately respond to a request from the AFP news agency to comment on the fine.
