Misplaced Liverpool eight points at the top of the league

SOUTHAMPTON, NOV 25 – Mohamed Salah’s two goals lifted Liverpool eight points clear at the top of the Premier League as the leaders survived Southampton’s defeat thanks to the Egyptian star’s second-half double with a 3-2 win yesterday.

Arne Slot’s side squandered the advantage handed to them by Dominik Szoboszlai’s second goal of the season as Adam Armstrong equalized before the break at St Mary’s.

Mateus Fernandes put Southampton ahead after the break before Salah saved Liverpool.

Salah calmly scored the equalizer and then by also slotting home a late-game penalty that took him to 12 goals in all competitions this season and six in his last five league appearances.

With the win, Liverpool has left Manchester City in second place after being beaten 4-0 by Tottenham last Saturday.

Liverpool were below their best against Southampton but the hard-fought victory was the ideal start to an important period ahead.
