Mount Dukono erupts, flight warning issued

JAKARTA, NOV 26 – Mount Dukono, located in North Maluku province, Indonesia, erupted today, causing a flight warning to be issued, according to the country’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation.

The eruption occurred at 9:43 a.m., spewing thick white to gray ash 4,600 meters into the air. The ash is now moving towards the northwest of the mountain.

Aircraft are prohibited from flying at an altitude below 5km around the volcano located on Halmahera Island. The status of the Volcano Observatory’s Orange Flight Warning has been issued.

Climbers and residents in the area are strictly prohibited from climbing or doing any activity within a 3km radius of the crater. Residents are also advised to always wear a face mask when there is ash spread, because volcanic ash can spread at any time.
