Mount Fuji is finally snowing this season, belatedly at best

KOFU, NOV 6 – Japan’s icon Mount Fuji was blanketed with its first snow of the season today, making it the latest date on record following unusually warm weather, according to News Agency Kyodo.

The 3,776-meter-high mountain peak located between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures was covered in thin snow in the morning, as confirmed by a reporter. Kyodo News.

The Kofu observatory annually announces snow observations for Japan’s highest mountain, but has yet to confirm the snowfall due to clouds blocking the view.

Once confirmed by the observatory, the first snowfall will officially surpass the previous records set on October 26, 1955 and 2016.

The hot weather has continued in recent weeks, with the average temperature at the top of the mountain reaching 1.6 degrees Celsius in October, the highest for the month since records began in 1932 and 3.6°C higher than the annual average. – Named
