KUALA LUMPUR, NOV 21 – Malaysia is making the most of the international stage to urge the world to recognize Palestine as a country and remove Israel from membership of the United Nations (UN).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he voiced the Malaysian government’s firm stance at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Peru, the G20 Summit in Brazil and the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia recently.
“Our position is certainly tough, I propose a little more, asking the countries of the world to consider removing Israel as a member of the UN. There we bring the Gaza issue and in front of President (Joe) Biden, President (China) Xi Jinping (and other leaders).
“At the G20 (Summit) in Brazil as well, we objected to the UN’s current position and demanded world governance, (for) reform of the UN and veto power not only to existing countries but expanded to powers such as representatives of Latin America and South Africa.
“Why can we accept the UN but we can allow countries that violate all UN resolutions such as the Security Council and the UN to let us, then countries that violate (international law) especially Israel should be removed,” he said at the Minister’s Question Time in Dewan Rakyat today. – Named
